Model 241 040 Instrument Panel Mount
Following many requests, we now offer this Instrument Panel Mount. At the time of writing, over 100 of these mounts are in service with nothing but positive feedback. "The envy of everyone who sees it" was the comment we received from one happy pilot. We try not to brag but this is a nice product and we think you'll be as pleased with it as we are proud of it.
We hope the pictures and graphics on this page will give a clear idea of how the Model 241 040 mount is arranged. Please click on any of the images to download a larger view.
The photo above shows the Model 241 040 fitted to a blank instrument panel. An adaptor plate (included with the mount) fits any standard 2 ¼" instrument panel hole so, generally, it can be fitted without any modifications to your airplane. If your application needs it, we can supply this mount with a 3 ⅛" panel adaptor plate.
If you don't have an unused panel hole, a viable alternative is to drill two holes and simply bolt the mount directly to your panel. The "footprint" area is only 2" x 0.5" so there's probably going to be somewhere you can make it fit. Naturally, you need to be certain this is appropriate, sensible and legal for your installation before drilling holes in your airplane. For an idea of what can be done, check out some of our customers' installations on our Gallery page.
We realize it's a little hard to see what you get in the photo above but the CAD screen dump below should give a good idea. All parts are CNC machined 6061 T6 aluminum alloy and all hardware is stainless steel. What perhaps isn't clear in the graphic is the finish: all the aluminum parts are gold alodine finished. Alodine is an aerospace surface treatment that looks great, resists corrosion and, if you want the mount to match your panel, is a great base for paint.
The slide show sequence below shows in an abbreviated way how the Model 241 040 goes together and how it is fitted. Please click on the thumbnails from left to right to see what happens.
Assembly takes anyone who's comfortable with simple hand tools just a few minutes.
We would also like to make clear the Model 241 040 mount is very widely adjustable in 2 independent axes, left-to-right and up-and-down. If you click on the the thumbnails below, the main picture will update and you'll see what we mean.
The first slide above shows a good view of the GPS mounting plate. This includes two perpendicular sets of holes on the AMPS hole pattern that is standard in the electronics industry so about any GPS, computer, phone or iPod cradle will bolt right on. Garmin, for example, use the AMPS pattern exclusively on their cradles.
The graphic below is another CAD screen dump which includes a ghosted Garmin 3/496 which we hope gives a good idea of scale.
We ship our mounts disassembled because they pack better that way. In the box you get the parts, stainless steel hardware, the three allen keys you need to put it together, some Installation Notes and an Exploded View. They take maybe 10 minutes to assemble and fit.

We hope the description and pictures on this page are clear but welcome emailed questions and comments.
